What are surfactants?
Surface active agents, commonly known as surfactants, are components that reduce surface tension between liquid-gas, liquid-solid and liquid-liquid interactions. Surfactants differ in chemical composition as well as charge and have many properties such as detergents, wetting agents, stabilizers and emulsifiers.
Natural surfactants are found in plants like yucca, soapwort, coconut and palm. Biosurfactants are biological mixtures produced by a variety of microorganisms including but not limited to bacteria, yeasts and fungi. There are four main types of biosurfactants being produced in the market today: glycolipids, phospholipids, lipoproteins or lipopeptides and polymeric compounds.
Production of biosurfactants using these microorganisms presents challenges in naturally cultivating and accessing the properties. We found a way to provide a natural biosurfactant without biological extraction from the organism itself!
Why our biosurfactant?
With pending patents in the United States, Canada and Europe, our Gara-Tech is an organic, conflict-free zwitterionic biosurfactant used across various cannabis product applications. We are creating a new type of biosurfactant with the molecular composition exhibiting no fatty acids or glycerols yet displaying more stable long amino acid chains. Our surfactant, a protein-based foam, is rare to find biologically; which is why our process is second to none in producing volumes necessary to change the industry.
Traditional chemical surfactants are used across several sectors for many different purposes. Unfortunately, most of these surfactants are petroleum-based used in food products, household products, healthcare, and environmental products. Chemical surfactants are actively being replaced in the market with more green and natural ingredients due to their harmful effects to people and the environment.
With Gara-Tech, we have reconstructed the natural process without using an invasive extraction technique, maintaining and enhancing the natural properties of the biosurfactant. We are exploiting the many benefits that are unprecedented in natural proteins such as antiviral, antimicrobial, and antibacterial properties (the A3 effect). Our biosurfactants ability to stabilize other elements or ingredients is superior to other petroleum-based, chemical and natural surfactants.
